OpenCOD.org - Opensource BlackBerry Projects

OpencodJason Hook of NotesBerry.org and a couple of others have spawned off a new website targeted towards BlackBerry opensource projects. They have created the website www.opencod.org to help host opensource BlackBerry software. You can read the announcement here. Jason has promised to post a free blogging application for BlackBerry on OpenCOD soon. The application is made for Lotus BlogSphere’s MetaWebLog blogging application but hopefully one for Wordpress will follow .

So far I only see 3 projects there but I think the idea has quite a bit of value. Simprit has tried a similar idea when they opened their Free Software Community with a free version of their Excel based GridMagic application.

Personally the only Opensource applications I know of for BlackBerry have stopped development ages ago. The project was called BBtools and provided free software that did everything from spell checking to offering a pretty decent today screen and weather application. I really wish somebody would pick up the torch in this arena and run with it. OpenCOD is off to a good start but we have yet to see if it has any staying power beyond some Lotus applications from NotesBerry.

An opensource project that would do something as simple as allow you to use the camera flash as a flashlight would be a prefect start.

Thank you for shining the BerryReview spotlight on openCOD and bbMetaBlog.

I’ve taken a look at the documentation for WordPress and I’ve confirmed that it is possible to post remotely using the Blogger API.

Producing a WordPress compatible Blog client for the BlackBerry looks very doable.

We’ll turn it into a project soon. Keep an eye on NotesBerry/openCOD for news….

I would love you if you came out with a wordpress client! You would take over the blogosphere :).

openCOD is a much needed resource if executed correctly. I really hope it succeeds!
