Cheap International Calls Using Packet8 MobileTalk Application
Packet8, one of the big VOIP players, has released a new application for BlackBerry at CES. Personally there are quite a few others already doing this so I did not post about it earlier. The PR rep at the booth promised that the BlackBerry application will automatically recognize your international calls and send them through Packet8 without any call backs or call codes.
You get a free $2 credit of calls when you first sign up and after that their regular per minute fees start kicking in. The funny part is that even though their press release says there are no obligations or fees for the but it does mention that the service has a $9.99 activation fee. ($4.99 for current Packet8 customers) I am not quite sure how that will pan out in the long run.
I do know that for now you can signup for the fee free trial at this link: http://mobiletalk.packet8.net/trial
You can download the application by going to the following link from your BlackBerry: http://mobiletalk.packet8.net

Direct calls from a Blackberry, with no callbacks? Hey, that’s a first.
.
But with an activation fee? Now that stinks. It’s total BS!

Its not a first at all. We have had it with EQO for quite awhile now. Personally I don’t see the point but I dont make that many international calls
I dont have that many friends.
I still swear by this 3utelecom.com service. Per second billing and no activation or any other charge. It automatically recognizes your caller ID so you do not need to enter in any pin code.

Just an update to your post- the new MobileTalk price is $0.00 per month and $0.00 sign-up!

That is the way it should have been in the first place!

The pin free dialing service is very convenient. Has anyone heard of my011.com before? My colleagues at work use it. I am debating between that and Mobile Talk.

I recommend 3uTelecom. I use them all the time!
