Trimble Outdoors has released their GPS applications for BlackBerry today. The app compatibility is confusing. The press release says that it is only compatible with CDMA but their website says it is compatible with both GSM & CDMA so I can’t speak either way. I don’t really understand the details so I will just leave you with the press release. Sorry guys so much to cover and not enough time in the day to ask the PR reps all the questions . You can see the details on the 3 apps below and you can pick them up at Handango.com.

Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) today announced the availability of three of its GPS phone software applications for CDMA-based BlackBerry® smartphones with built-in GPS, which include the BlackBerry® 8830 World Edition and BlackBerry® Pearl™ 8130 smartphones from Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM). The AllSport GPS™, Geocache Navigator™ and Trimble Outdoors™ applications from the Trimble Outdoors family of GPS-on-cellular products and services provide BlackBerry smartphone users with the on-the-go lifestyle solutions they demand.

The announcement was made today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Trimble’s GPS-on-cellular applications will be showcased at the CES in Las Vegas from January 7-10 at Booth # 4714 in the North Hall.

With the introduction of the Trimble Outdoors applications on CDMA-based BlackBerry smartphones, a greater range of consumers can now harness the power of GPS for their outdoor lifestyle activities. Following the earlier release of the three applications for the GSM-based BlackBerry smartphones with built-in GPS, consumers with devices such as the popular and compact BlackBerry Pearl 8130 smartphone can now utilize their smartphone as they participate in outdoor activities such as hiking, backpacking, fishing, biking, running, walking, or even geocaching.

“Trimble has extended its breadth of offerings by making our GPS-based software applications available for CDMA-based BlackBerry smartphones,” said Larry Fox, business development director, Trimble Outdoors. “BlackBerry smartphones offer a distinctive platform for experiencing outdoor adventures.”

AllSport GPS

With the AllSport GPS application, BlackBerry smartphone users looking to jumpstart or maintain their fitness routine can track exercise activity by monitoring time, speed, calories burned, and distance traveled during outdoor workouts. Additionally, users may download map images and recommended routes to their phones, view performance statistics, and store workouts to monitor progress or share with friends. The application supports a variety of outdoor activities including walking, running, cycling and mountain biking.

Geocache Navigator

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunt that is rapidly gaining widespread adoption worldwide. Geocache Navigator is the only application that brings geocaching capabilities to the mobile phone and provides real time access to geocaching.com, the largest geocache database in the world. Using their GPS phone, geocachers can seek the caches using a uniquely constructed, radar-like interface that guides them toward their destination. Additionally, phone screens provide compass-based navigation, maps, speed, heading, location, distance, cache descriptions logs, hints and other useful information for both the most experienced and novice user.

Trimble Outdoors

Trimble Outdoors is a complete outdoor trip planning and navigation solution that allows consumers to review and plan trips online, send routes, maps and waypoints wirelessly to their GPS phone and then use the phone as a full-featured GPS navigator to guide their adventures. The application allows users to get maps of their locations, track routes with a GPS bread-crumb trail, and mark and edit waypoints along the way. The application also features a digital compass displaying the users coordinates, speed and heading. Users can also leverage the multi-media components of their phones to create photographic, video and audio notes of their trips for sharing online and viewing in Google Earth.

Availability and Pricing

Trimble’s GPS-on-cellular applications are available now through Handmark (www.handmark.com) for the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition and BlackBerry Pearl 8130 smartphones from leading CDMA carriers for $39.99 each per year or $5.99 each per month.
