Gmail Mobile Version 1.5 Released!

gmailmobileupdate.gifCorrection: Today I seem a bit dyslexic. I misread the announcement on Google groups to mean that it was available for only BlackBerry devices. What it did say was that it is available for everything except BlackBerry devices. Hope you forgive my mistake :) and thanks for catching it Arthur!

Google has once again given us the goods by quietly updating their Gmail application to Version 1.5. The new version is not drastically different but does bring a few nice new features to the table. Sadly from what I can tell this new version is not yet available for us Google Apps for your domain users.

New Features:

  • Now runs much faster and uses less data
  • Attach a “Sent from Gmail for mobile” footer to your outgoing messages (Not sure if thats a feature)
  • View the full details of your Gmail contacts NICE!
  • Save a message you’re composing to “Finish Later”

Just visit to download 1.5 now!

  1. I just checked the website and v1.5 is not available for the BlackBerry 8830. Only v1.10

  2. Your completely right Arthur i’m dyslexic today and I misread the post on google groups. I read it to say it was available for only blackberry devices. It is actually available for everybody except blackberry devices

  3. I’m beginning to feel like I’m not a very lucky man. After one full year using a Palm device and noticing the lack of interest in the Palm platform by many software developers, I now use a Blackberry and have the same feeling: it’s always the Symbians, the Nokias (Symbian or not) and Pocket PCs first. Blackberry later, if ever. Grumble. Having the good taste in this tacky world is not easy.

Anyway, the current version of the Gmail app I have is almost sure to crash whenever I compose or reply to a message. I hope the new version fixes that, if the new version ever comes to us Berry addicts. Grumble.

  4. are we expecting that they will release a new version of this made for blackberry? i have the version 1.1 and i personally think it’s not that great. super slow and inefficient. do we have any knowledge of when a v 1.5 (or hopefully even better!) may be released for BB?
