FAQ: Find Out Which GSM Carriers Are In Each Country And What Frequencies They Use

gsmworldlogo.gifI just found a wonderful resource to identify which GSM wireless carriers are in a specific country and which wireless frequencies and technologies they run. This is extremely useful for finding out what carriers there are to roam on on which carrier you should buy a prepaid SIM card for when you are traveling. Check out the full listing by going to this link on GSMworld.com. The website is very easy to use and breaks down each country and the different operators. The best part is that it also has a listing of the current roaming parters each carrier has including which services they offer and a detailed coverage map. This is useful for finding out who has partnered with your carrier for international roaming.

  1. After clicking this link, and clicking on United States, the list for GSM carriers includes Alltel Wireless. Alltel is a CDMA carrier, not GSM. Caution should be used when researching via this link as all information may not be correct.

Alltel is a CDMA carrier, but has some GSM equipment in some of their cell sites. They use this equipment for roaming revenue.
