BoyGenius Pits WiFi Against EDGE In A BlackBerry SpeedTest
BoyGenius has once again provided us with some valuable information about the new WiFi-Berry’s. He performs a speedtest comparing the download speeds on WiFi compared to EDGE. His results show that the WiFi does not provide significant web browsing experience to warrant buying a new device for WiFi. This means that he does not find justification yet for the 8820 WiFi-Berry on AT&T.
Conclusion? If you have T-Mobile and your BlackBerry needs replacing, this is a logical upgrade. While even though Wi-Fi does not offer much of an improvement in speed over web browsing, file downloading and UMA access make it worthwhile. We just still don’t see the attractiveness of the BlackBerry 8820 on AT&T…
Hopefully new applications such as SIP capabilities will come out to change the equation. He does not make any judgment on the new UMA T-Mobile BlackBerry that adds VOIP/UMA capabilities to the 8320 since the added coverage makes the new WiFi capabilities attractive on T-Mobile@Home.
