FAQ: How To Wipe All Information From Your BlackBerry
I get this question often from users asking how to remove all of their personal information from their BlackBerry. This sometimes needs to be done for a variety of situations. For example, you may want to sell your berry on eBay or you may want to give it to a friend or better yet you may just want to donate it. Keep in mind this wipe does not remove programs and does not touch any information stored on your memory cards. Note: If you have content protection enabled on your BlackBerry this can take quite awhile (almost an hour). I am not sure how the wipe will effect memory cards that have been encrypted using your BlackBerry but I will get back to you on that.
To wipe your BlackBerry you have to follow the simple instructions laid down in this BlackBerry knowledgebase article:
- From the Home screen on your BlackBerry smartphone, go to Options > Security Options > General Settings.
- Click on the trackwheel or the Menu button on newer devices.
- Select Wipe Handheld from the menu.
- Click Continue.
- Type blackberry, and then press the Enter key.

You guys rock… very handy help options and tips on the Blackberry phone… Thank you guys keep up the good work.
This works great…. unless your keyboard is broken, and you can’t type all the letters in the word “blackberry”!! A suggested alternative was given to me: enable password protection, then entering the password incorrectly will eventually wipe the phone. No go, I’m right back to the phone asking me to type the word “blackberry”, which I can’t do.
