New AT&T 8820 Will Have Crippled GPS Because Of iPhone

blackberry_8800_21.jpg The good guys over at BlackBerryCool have released some very sad information about the upcoming BlackBerry 8820 WiFi phone from AT&T. They have a source in AT&T which is telling them that they will be locking down GPS functionality in the 8820 to only work with TeleNav for $10 a month. As an AT&T customer this really pisses me off and I am glad I have and 8800 with WiFi enabled. This is reminiscent of Verizon crippling the GPS in their phones. RIM is supposedly extremely peeved that AT&T has done this because they are afraid that the 8820 will compete with the iPhone. This is a real piss off coming for AT&T and may cause many users to get a T-Mobile 8820 which will not be crippled this way. Source: BlackBerryCool
