InformationWeek Compares BlackBerry Browser to the Competition
InformationWeek has done a thorough comparison of the BlackBerry Curve browser to the iPhone, Treo 755p, and HTC Wing. They call the comparison the SmartPhone Browser Shootout and it seems to heavily favor the iPhone. Personally they seem to have missed the ballpark when it comes to the new features in the OS 4.2 BlackBerry Browser. They do gloss over the full page mode and seem to ignore the fact that the browser now has a mouse. Something that could never be done without a trackball. They complain that the BlackBerry browser is too menu driven but I would have to disagree when compared to the iPhone and the Windows Mobile Browsers. You can see what I mean in the excerpt below:
“The Curve’s main menu is overly long, a symptom that should be very familiar to anybody who ever suffered from “BlackBerry thumb” — using the clickwheel to roll through the menus and clicking to make a selection. The little trackball first introduced on the BlackBerry Pearl is not as usable as the clickwheel was. It supports 2-D navigation, which the clickwheel didn’t, but it doesn’t feel as accurate as a D-pad for navigation. “
Seriously they seem to think that the trackball is worse than a D-pad when it comes to accuracy. That is like saying the arrow keys on a keyboard are more accurate than a mouse. Read the full review and tell us what you think.
