NASA Gives iPhone a Thumbs Down And BlackBerry 8800 a Thumbs Up
NASA in a recently released meeting minutes has deemed the iPhone as “Not enterprise ready.” While I could have told you that without any help from NASA it is quite amusing. This is the same as deeming a Mac to not be enterprise ready when the standard is Windows. NASA has really stuck it to Apple by deciding that they will support the BlackBerry 8800 and Treo 750. This means some lucky astronauts will be equipped with slick new BlackBerry 8800 devices. The meeting minutes mentioned by InformationWeek didn’t indicate why NASA officials believe the iPhone is not business material but Gartner is guessing that it is because of the following three key points. Among them: lack of support from major device management and mobile security software suites, lack of removable batteries, and Apple’s exclusive contract with network provider AT&T.
