The good guys over at Tichnut.de have released a free Hebrew / Jewish Calendar for BlackBerry devices. This update allows you to use the program on 8800 and 8300 BlackBerry devices. There is no OTA install but you can get the desktop manager install at this link. This is really a fringe program but for anybody that ever needs to reference Jewish dates and times this is a must have. All the information is stored locally so there is no need for Internet traffic. If you do not understand what that means then you can ignore this post. The calendar program has the following features:
* Quick-jump function to the current system date, a month or a year
* Sfirat ha – Omer count
* Configuration options
o Diaspora/Israel calendar and times
o Begin of shabbat: minutes before sunset on Friday
o End of shabbat: minutes after sunset on Saturday or degrees below horizon
o Time format (12/24 hour)
o Zmanim
+ Alot Hashachar (16.1 degrees below horizon, 72 minutes before sunrise, 90 minutes before sunrise)
+ Earliest Tallit (11 or 10.2 degrees below horizon)
+ Hanetz Hachama
+ Kriat Shema (GR”O or M”A)
+ Tefila (GR”O or M”A)
+ Chatzot (GR”O or M”A)
+ Mincha Gedola (GR”O or M”A)
+ Mincha K’tana (GR”O or M”A)
+ Plag Hamincha (GR”O or M”A)
+ Shkiat Hachama
+ Tzait Hakochavim (72 minutes after sunset; 5.95, 6.5, 7.0, 7.08, 7.5 or 8.5, 8.75, 10.0 degrees below horizon)
o Daylight Savings Time
o Location for times calculation – over 1000 locations predefined; own locations can be added easily
If you enjoy the program the author asks that you give a donation to Machon Mamre at this link.Â

Just downloaded this onto my Curve and began to explore it. Looks like a great program for the Blackberry and I’m thankful it was out there

Barry – you must save it to your computer then unzip it (i found it easiest to unzip and leave on the desktop) then use the application manager software for your Balckberry to find the program on your desk top and follow the application manager instructions from there.
it was a little confusing because most applications can be dowloaded via the Blackberry itself.

Just installed it on my storm…. seems to work fine except the back arrow does not close the program. Need to use the BB menu key and hit close. Otherwise a great program.

I just installed it on my bb storm.
The touch screen feature does not seem to be operating. In the monthly calendar mode, how do I move to a date other than the current date, in order to get the information listed for that date???

Yes -Luach DOES list the weekly Parashah.
Highlighted a SHABBATH on the calendar; click the expand button on then click on YOM.
Parashah for that SHABBATH will be listed

The touch screen feature does not seem to be operating. In the monthly calendar mode, how do I move to a date other than the current date, in order to get the information listed for that date. In other words, how do I check information for later in the week or month?
