Cellfire has now released their mobile coupon solution for BlackBerry devices to receive digital coupons from a number of national retailers. Personally all I saw when I opened the application with my location in downtown Manhattan was slim pickings. The only coupons I was offered were from EMI (Free song), Hollywood Video, Omaha Steaks, 1-800-Flowers, and some womens magazines.
You don’t have to be a marketing genius to feel that they have a lot of work to do before they manage to target a large audience with their coupons. They claim on their website that they have coupons from Domino’s Pizza, Hardee’s restaurants, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Hollywood Video, North Beach Pizza, Pizza Chicago, T.G.I. Friday’s, 1-800-flowers.com and magazine publisher Meredith Corp. Truthfully Cellfire should have waited until they had a larger Merchant base before launching their product. Their lineup is just plain pitiful even especially for downtown New York. My other complaint is the constant nag screen whenever you update coupons asking if you wish to receive coupon alerts VIA text message. Cellfire needs to get on the BlackBerry bandwagon and offer email alerts which are free compared to text messages. We are going to give Cellfire a chance to mature before we review their software.
