BlackBerry Mobile website redesign seems to be a downgrade

bbmobilewebsite1.jpg BlackBerry has redesigned their mobile.blackberry.com website again. This time they have improved the aesthetics but actually have removed many free games, ringtones, and wallpapers from their site. This feels like a downgrade especially since many of these games were real gems. For example, under their super games link on the homepage they now only have 4 free games available to download. Sudoku, Ka-Glom, Medieval Kings Chess 2, and CirclePopper. The Irony is that they used to have almost 10 free games on this page. Gone are the links to free versions of Spider Solitare, Texas Hold’em King 2, MeteorCursher, Rooster, Raging Rivers, Bass Assassin and Klondike. I have already shot off an email to RIM asking why they have suddenly taken these games away.

The only answer I seem to find is a one liner on the top of the free games asking visitors to return often, with a promise that RIM will rotate the free games. RIM should know better than to give something for free and then only offer partial access to it. You will also notice that under the free wallpaper and ringtones section that RIM has also started rotating out many of these free items. For example there are only 6 wallpapers left for downloading. The ringtone section has also been reduced to only 10 ringtones from the previous 20+. All I have to say is what does RIM stand to gain from removing perfectly good functionality and features during their website redesign.
